The Russian River in Sonoma Couty reached moderate flood stage Wednesday and was expected to peak. People in low-lying areas were told to evacuate last night, but some residents have stayed put and are now stuck in their homes waiting for the water to subside.

Flooding coupled with saturated soils and landslides triggered by Tuesday’s drenching rain, has caused multiple road closures across the region.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday evening issued an evacuation order for low lying areas along the Russian River, the office announced just before 6 p.m. “Everyone along the Russian River from unincorporated Healdsburg to Jenner located at 36 feet or below is under evacuation order,

Even as the rain has subsided for the day, evacuation orders are still in place for low-lying areas around the Russian River between Healdsburg and Jenner after a home was pushed into the swollen river.

The NWS San Francisco CA issued a flood warning at 11:10 p.m. on Monday in effect until Wednesday at 10 p.m. The NWS states, "Urban areas and small streams flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected for central Sonoma county."

Another school district in Sonoma County was closed for Wednesday due to flooding, while cities like Guerneville had to clean up the landslides and mudslides that inundated the region because of the heavy storms.
