Throughout Black History Month, WVTM 13 is recognizing and honoring the legacy of Alabamians who broke barriers.
Vivian Malone and James Hood walked through the doors of Foster Auditorium at The University of Alabama to become the first Black students to successfully enroll at the school in 1963.
She was attacked by mounted police officers on "Bloody Sunday" in Selma. Her efforts, along with "Bloody Sunday," were significant in the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
