Happy Gilmore is back on top. Adam Sandler’s long-gestating sequel “Happy Gilmore 2” teed off with big viewership numbers, ranking at No. 1 on the Netflix list of top 10 English-language movies. “Happy Gilmore 2” launched on the streamer on July 25.
I didn’t expect much going into Adam Sandler’s newest movie. I suppose I haven’t expected a lot out of Sandler in a very long time, though his early films were some of my favorite comedies when I was young. Billy Maddison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer. I still get a little teary-eyed when Robbie sings to Julia on the airplane in that last one.
Debuting with 46.7M views at the number 1 spot, that means it’s the second biggest movie launch of 2025 so far, with only Back in Action, which is in the all-time top 10, ahead of it. Assuming it sticks around, a spot could soon open up for Happy Gilmore 2, too, and we’ll keep you posted in the weeks and months to come.

Though I did enjoy some of the callbacks, jokes, silly references, and the show-stealing performance by a certain bad boy of golf, there was something about these homages that turned me off and took me out of the movie. In fact, I was quite annoyed…
