DES MOINES, Iowa — Only six years after being gifted to the city of Des Moines, a pedestrian bridge is in need of expensive repairs that the city will have to cover.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A pedestrian bridge connecting two West Des Moines parks will open to the public this week. The city will cut the ribbon on the Athene Pedestrian Bridge on Thursday.
