In a largely symbolic move, the San Diego City Council on Tuesday threw its overwhelming support behind the more than 700 hotel workers on strike at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. In a 7-0 vote, the council approved a resolution that calls for a “fair and just” conclusion of the dispute that has embroiled the workers and the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel since Aug.

The council voted unanimously Tuesday on a resolution, calling on Hilton to come back to the bargaining table.

The workers' strike at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront entered its second week as negotiations over the latest contract are set to resume.

The current strike marks the second walkout in as many years as the local union seeks a significant pay increase for its members.

Most of 10,000 hotel workers who went on strike during the busy Labor Day weekend are back returned to work Wednesday, but one group of 700 workers in San Diego have remained on strike for the foreseeable future.

Union members at the bayfront Hilton remain the only hotel workers in the country still on strike after others across the country returned to work following short walkouts.

The Unite Here union said on Tuesday strikes by hotel workers have concluded in Baltimore and Seattle, while 9,376 workers remained on strike in seven cities including San Diego at the Hilton Bayfront.
