Murder Inc. Records founder Irv Gotti has died at 54. He helped launch careers for talent such as Ashanti, DMX and Ja Rule.

Former Def Jam president Kevin Liles is facing allegations he sexually harassed and assaulted an executive assistant in the early 2000s.

“Def Jam Recordings and the extended Def Jam family of artists, executives and employees, are deeply saddened at the loss of Irv Gotti,” Def Jam said in a statement released late Wednesday.
