Ukrainian officials say three people were killed and 13 were wounded when Russia attacked the country with waves of drones and missiles.

Air defense forces neutralized 43 Shahed UAVs and other drones across the north, east, and south of Ukraine. Of these, 28 were shot down by fire weapons, while 15 were either lost or suppressed by electronic warfare.

Russia said on Friday it had conducted large-scale tests of new laser-based systems to defend against drones. A government statement described the new technology as "promising" and said it had been tested against various types of drone in different weather conditions.

Apart from drones, 20 missiles of various types were fired at different parts of Ukraine, according to the air force, which said the barrage targeted mainly central and western areas of Ukraine.
