Auston Matthews' health status may have the Toronto Maple Leafs looking for center help before the March 7 trade deadline.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in adding to their forward depth ahead of next month's trade deadline, Toews might be an option.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed defenseman Dakota Mermis off waivers from the Utah HC and assigned him to their AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies. Utah claimed Mermis off waivers from Toronto on Dec. 12, the Maple Leafs are able to send him directly to the minors because no other team submitted a claim.

The former Minnesota Wild defenseman has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dakota Mermis was originally signed by the Maple Leafs before the 2024-25 season. He missed the start of the season with an injury and was eventually placed on waivers by Toronto to send him to the American Hockey League (AHL).
