Pakistan’s monsoon flooding death toll rises to 220 as forecasters warn of more rain to come
BUNER, Pakistan (AP) — Flooding in a northwest Pakistani district has killed at least 220 people, officials said Saturday, as rescuers pulled 63 more bodies overnight from homes flattened by flash floods and landslides, with forecasts of more rain in the coming days.
About 360 people have died in just four days across Pakistan as the nation continues to face devastating monsoon flooding, officials said.
Samaa TV team reached the affected area ahead of many government responders to offer continuous coverage of the unfolding disaster.
The provincial government on Monday released Rs800 million in relief funds for all affected districts, with an additional Rs 500m specifically for worst-hit Buner, as flash floods continue to ravage Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the death toll at 341.
