Indian stock market benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty 50, rebounded over one per cent in intraday trade on January 28, following two days of losses, driven by strong buying in banking and financial stocks.

In the broader market, both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices outperformed the benchmarks, rising 0.7 percent each.

Indian benchmark indices extended the selloff on Tuesdays and are poised to close at the lowest level since the June crash. Selloff in Oil and Gas stocks and banks led the declines in the benchmark index. Nifty 50 index fell below 23,000 for the first time since June 7, 2024, and Sensex fell nearly 1,300 points on Tuesday.

The S&P BSE Sensex was up by 33.36 points to 76,566.32, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 34.50 points to 23,197.60 as of 9:30 AM.

The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 824.29 points, or 1.08 per cent, to 75,366.17. The broader Nifty 50 tanked 263.05 points, or 1.14 per cent, to close at 22,829.15.

In today’s trading session, the Nifty Bank opened 518.15 points higher, or 1.08%, to trade at 48,582.80 The Nifty Midcap 100 gained 212.85 points, or 0.41%, to open at 52,008.75.

Shares of Coforge Ltd. and Persistent Systems Ltd. surged 11% and 12%, respectively on positive third-quarter earnings. Tech sentiments were also buoyed by Trump's push to make the US an AI superpower by having fewer guardrails.

The Indian stock market closed Wednesday's trading session on a positive note with benchmark indices rallying ahead of the monthly expiry and the upcoming Union Budget session. The stock market had seen a positive movement on Tuesday also.

The Sensex and Nifty closed at their highest levels of the day, extending their winning streak for a second consecutive session, ahead of the highly anticipated Federal Open Market Committee's interest rate decision on Wednesday.
