As Andrew M said, these are safe cities as long as you take the usual precautions. Unlike Andrew I took the marshrutka from Bishkek (West bus station) to Almaty (Sayran bus station). The services are regular & cheap (500 Som/€6.25 outward, 1,800 tengeì/€4.40 return). The border crossings were easy, in both directions we were over in a few minutes. However, I'm a British citizen so didn't need a visa for either country. Never been to Tashkent, sorry.

A:
I was told it is every hour on the hour.
